This lame (pronounced ‘Lahm’ which is a French word that means ‘blade’) is as a sourdough scorer - it slices the dough before being placed into a hot oven. Scoring dough helps the bread expand in the oven without the skin splitting randomly. You can even get creative with different scoring patterns in your sourdough bread!
The lame comes with 5 blades. It also has a leather cover to ensure safety when you are not using it/storing it. The wooden handle is comfortable to hold and will ensure a great score on your loaf of sourdough bread!

So much better than a standard razor blade! Only dropped a star because it's so sharp, it's already sliced through the little cover that came with it. Not a biggie, and something I can create a substitute for.
Hi there,
Thanks so much for the lovely feedback, we’re really glad you’re enjoying the bread lame.
And yes, they are very sharp by design, so they can definitely be a bit enthusiastic when it comes to slicing through things, even the cover sometimes!
We really appreciate you sharing that detail as well, it’s helpful feedback and we’ll keep it in mind for future improvements. Great idea on making a simple substitute cover too.
Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review and happy baking!
Regards,
Ariane

I was using a knife + the seven-minute score before this which was extra admin and honestly had mid results. With this lame I'm getting great scoring with a much improved rise!
I managed to eventually get a starter to look good
This is so much easier to use rather than trying with justa blade
